Preventative Medicine we Recommend
Capstar is an adult flea control pill that can be used in dogs and cats. It starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and can be given every 24 hours for control of adult fleas only.

Advantus is an adult flea control pill for dogs in a tasty chewable form. A 96% efficacy killing the adult fleas on your dog within 4 hours, but it only lasts 24 hours.

Nexgard Nexgard is a once-a-month oral flea and tick preventative. Like Trifexis, its efficacy is no reduced by bathing or swimming. It has been accepted well by our patients, so the palatability seems good too! It’s a great product in combination with a monthly heartworm preventative to keep your dogs parasite-free. It will control adult fleas and ticks.

Bravecto Canine is an oral flea and tick preventative, similar to Nexgard, but is labeled for a duration of activity of 90 days! It controls adult fleas and ticks.

Bravecto Plus is a topical flea, tick, hookworm, roundworm and heartworm preventative for your cat. It has a duration of activity for 60 days for all of the above parasites, although protection from fleas and ticks can last up to 90 days. You only have to catch your cat to apply it every 2-3 months! Yahoo!

Sentinel Spectrum Sentinel was off the market for a while, but it is back and has added more protection for your dogs against parasites. It prevents heartworm infections, as well as controlling hookworm, roundworm, whipworm and tapeworm infections. It also controls the flea population in the environment by making the baby fleas unable to hatch out of the eggs. As the environment is where most of the fleas live, this is a great addition to a flea control plan.

Frontline Gold Flea and Tick Prevention Frontline Gold is a once a month topical flea and tick treatment that effectively kills adult fleas and ticks as well as inhibiting egg and larval development in the environment. It is minimally water soluble and therefore is resistant to being washed away by swimming and bathing. Frontline Gold is available in feline and canine dosings.
